Autumn colors

Between summer and winter

There’s an in-between season, as intense as it is ephemeral, that slips in between the first frosts and periods of thaw: it’s the Indian summer. It’s a time when deciduous trees express their most beautiful, warm and intense colors, but in Vars, the flamboyance comes mainly from our larch forests. One of the few conifers to shed its needles in a last stand before winter, it gives us its most beautiful palette of warm tones.

Landscapes

go up in flames

A true source of inspiration, autumn celebrates the season of peaceful happiness, a creative melancholy under the pen of writers or the brush of painters. Vivaldi himself enshrined it in his 4 seasons. So if, like Verlaine, the long sobs of autumn’s violins plunge you into monotony, let us take you on a journey through shimmering, heart-warming landscapes. Vars is adorned in reds and browns, with a hint of yellow and a touch of orange, as seen through the eyes of our photographer.

The Val d’Escreins nature reserve offers a magnificent sight before the long winter sleep. Here, few leaves line the ground, but a soft carpet of thorns covers the earth in a soft tawny finery. For the time being, the needles, which are still alive before the winter fall, filter the rays of the autumn sun. Strolls and picnics turn into bucolic visits to exotic natural spaces that almost provoke winter, daring it to match such beauty with its white coat.

Have you ever been to the mountains in autumn? Because if you don’t have any plans in the next few days, now’s the time!
