French snowboarding

Vars hosted the French Freestyle Snowboard Championships from March 13 to 17, 2025. This competition brought together athletes of all categories in Slopestyle and Big Air events. The event was the perfect opportunity for snowboard enthusiasts and winter sports fans to take in the sights on the Varspark modules.

Discovering the Olympic disciplines of Slopestyle and Big Air

Slopestyle consists of riding down a course made up of different modules such as rails, boxes and kickers. Snowboarders must perform a series of acrobatic tricks while maximizing their style, technique and creativity. Scoring is based on several criteria: progression, execution, amplitude and cleanliness. In the qualifying round, each athlete performs two runs, with only the best score being taken into account. The best riders then advance to the final, where they perform two further runs. As in qualifying, only the best score is retained to establish the final ranking.

The principle of the Big Air discipline is simple: athletes pick up speed and take off on a large springboard, enabling them to perform a highly technical aerial trick. The aim is to impress the judges by performing tricks before landing in a controlled manner. This sport is a real show, combining daring and risk management. In the qualifying round, each athlete has two runs, with only the best score counting. In the final, they have three runs, and the two best scores are added together to determine the final ranking.
