A ski area

With controlled resources

Vars takes action and adopts eco-responsible measures. Damage, lifts, discover how Vars is reducing its environmental impact.

Damage

Economical and responsible

Our station’s 9 grooming machines run on biodegradable oils and non-road diesel made from biofuel and AdBlue, reducing their carbon footprint. This fuel is stored in new tanks to avoid the need for recurrent supplies. Our drivers are trained in eco-driving to regulate fuel use, and the development of ski slopes during the summer facilitates grooming and therefore reduces fuel consumption.

The SnowSat software on board our grooming machines identifies the areas where snowmaking is required, enabling us to produce the “right amount” of snow and distribute it evenly.

Worth knowing

> 92% of the ski area’s runs are groomed.

> 9 grooming machines in operation throughout the winter (4 winch, 4 standard and 1 for pedestrian, snowshoe and cross-country ski itineraries)

Ski lifts

Energy-efficient

Modernization of the ski l ifts has made it possible to replace energy-hungry equipment with more efficient machines. When visitor numbers are low, the resort reduces the speed of the lifts, thus cutting energy consumption. Outside peak periods, the ski lifts are used in a sensible way, through eco-driving.

Worth knowing

> The Forêt Blanche ski area has 36 lifts, 18 of which are in Vars.

> A total of 45 drivers in Vars
