Vars will host the famous Marathon Alps Epic mountain bike race on June 23 and 25, 2024, with the 3rd and 4th stages finishing on Varsinc territory.

La grande traversée VTT des Hautes-Alpes makes a stopover in Vars! Several race formats are on offer to experience this incredible week-long itinerant journey by mountain bike. Enthusiasts, competitors and non-competitors alike can take up the challenge and cover 5 stages of around 50 to 70 km per day. If you prefer to enjoy the route without the pressure of a stopwatch, RANDO formulas are available for mountain bikers, ATVers and GRAVEL riders.

Pierre Billaud confirms 1st place in the rankings for the third time in succession

Wednesday marked the finish of the fifth and final stage of the Alps Epic in Vars. Pierre Billaud outperformed the prognosis, winning in 4 hours and 3 minutes at over 16 km/h in the tall grass.

“I really enjoyed the course, it was a great stage, but I’ll have to tell the organizers that I don’t have the brushcutter in front (laughs)”.

On this 4th stage, the winner confirmed his first place ahead of his main rivals, Alex Barberoux (4 hours and 15 minutes) and Clément Desjardins (4 hours and 32 minutes). In the women’s category, Saskia Hessen won the solo race.
